Come to beautiful Washington Island Friday and Saturday, August 22nd & 23rd for the third annual Death’s Door Bar-B-Q at the Washington Island Airport. Presented by the Washington Island Ferry Line and the Washington Island Chamber of Commerce, the Death’s Door Bar-B-Q is a KCBS-Sanctioned Competition with 100% Certified Judges and $7,500 in Prize Money.

DDBBQ is honored to have been chosen as a participant in the Kansas City Barbecue Society charity initiative 100KCBS. The goal of 100KCBS is to donate 100,000 barbecue meals to food pantries across the country during the 2014 competition season. We are thrilled to be involved and look forward to working with KCBS, local food pantries and our terrific teams to donate some great meals this summer!

Early registration is THURSDAY, August 21, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Regular registration is FRIDAY, August 22, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Teams will be able to sell BBQ at the competition if they wish.

Death’s Door Bar-B-Q opens to the public at the Washington Island Airport on Saturday, August 23rd at 10am with free admission, arts & crafts, kids’ activities, live music, food vendors, and of course – Barbequed Chicken, Pork, Pork Ribs, and Beef Brisket as sold by competitors.


Death’s Door Bar-B-Q has been selected as a qualifying contest for the Great Lakes Barbecue Association Beak2Beak competition! The winner of the Chicken category will be eligible to participate in a separate contest held in conjunction with the Silver Lake Apple and BBQ competition in Mears Lake, Michigan on September !3th. 18 qualifying teams will compete for $500 in prize money in a winner-take-all contest.
